Sri Lanka Police Issue Stern Warning on Loudspeaker Use, Threaten Seizure

Sri Lanka Police have issued fresh instructions regarding the use of loudspeakers and amplifiers, warning that equipment may be seized if excessive noise continues to disturb residents and public peace. These measures, aligned with Supreme Court orders, aim to address serious health and psychological concerns caused by noise pollution, particularly for infants, schoolchildren, the elderly, and patients. Police also noted that loudspeakers are generally prohibited between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., and legal action can be taken under the Penal Code for public nuisance.
