Sri Lanka Police Intensify Crackdowns, Seize Illicit Liquor and Raw Materials in Multiple Raids

Sri Lankan police have conducted several raids across the island, leading to the arrest of multiple individuals involved in the illicit liquor trade. Operations in areas like Peliyagoda, Kandana, Kindelpitiya, Pamunugama, and Ragama resulted in the seizure of both finished illicit liquor and raw materials used for its production. Notable seizures include over 67 liters of liquor in Peliyagoda, 75 liters in Kandana, and a significant haul of 2,646 liters of 'goda' (raw material) in Pamunugama. Authorities also confiscated approximately 27 liters of liquor valued at Rs. 1 million in Kindelpitiya, transported in a luxury car. These operations, carried out by various police units including the Valana Anti-Corruption Unit, highlight ongoing efforts to combat the production and distribution of illegal alcohol.
