Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya has announced intensified efforts to combat organized crime orchestrated from abroad. The IGP stated that 32 individuals involved in serious crimes have already been successfully repatriated to Sri Lanka within the past year. These repatriations are a direct result of strong international cooperation and ongoing investigations with foreign law enforcement agencies. Weerasuriya further indicated that an additional 13 underworld figures and large-scale drug traffickers, currently apprehended overseas, are expected to be brought back to the country shortly. He affirmed that these operations have significantly crippled local underworld activities and brought recent criminal incidents, including shootings, under control.
