Sri Lanka's Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced the closure of several businesses and activities during the upcoming Vesak Week. Meat shops, slaughterhouses, liquor stores, betting centres, casinos, and nightclubs will be closed islandwide on May 30, May 31, and June 1. Additionally, supermarkets are instructed to suspend the sale of meat during these three days. The Vesak Week period has been declared from May 27 to June 2, in observance of the National Vesak Festival. These measures aim to ensure a solemn observance of the religious period.
