A new recycling centre for construction and demolition (C&D) waste was inaugurated on May 8th in the Ekala Industrial Zone as part of the 'Clean Sri Lanka' national programme. The Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat has allocated Rs. 200 million for this initiative. Established within the State Engineering Corporation's premises, the facility is a significant step towards transforming Sri Lanka's construction sector towards greater environmental sustainability. Globally, the construction industry is a major contributor to waste and carbon emissions, with the Western Province alone generating approximately 300 tons of such waste daily.
