Sri Lanka Mandates Seat Belts for All Expressway Passengers from September 19

Effective September 19, wearing seat belts will be mandatory for all passengers in all vehicles operating on Sri Lanka's expressways. This directive follows the conclusion of a grace period granted for compliance with regulations, including equipping vehicles not originally fitted with seat belts. Authorities have stated that legal action will be taken against drivers and passengers who fail to adhere to the new rule, and vehicles without the required seat belts will not be permitted on expressways. The National Transport Commission and the Ministry of Transport have confirmed the enforcement of this safety measure.
