Sri Lanka Mandates 20 Years Supreme Court Practice for President's Counsel Appointments

An extraordinary gazette notification has revised the guidelines for appointing President's Counsel in Sri Lanka. Issued by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, under the direction of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the amendment mandates that candidates must have completed 20 years of practice as an Attorney-at-Law within the Supreme Court. This revision repeals provisions from the previous guidelines issued in November 2021. Applications are now being accepted for these appointments, with a deadline of August 31st.
