Sri Lanka Launches Tech Project to Prevent Elephant-Train Collisions

An understanding was reached yesterday to implement a project aimed at preventing elephants from colliding with trains. Presided over by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumaranayake at the Presidential Media Centre, the initiative will deploy technological solutions. These include beam detection, passive infrared (PIR) sensors, and automatic temperature sensors designed to identify animals weighing over 20 kilograms. The project, coordinated by the 'Clean Sri Lanka' program, is a public-private partnership involving the Railway Department, Wildlife and Conservation Department, and is fully funded by the People's Bank.
