Sri Lanka Launches National Environment Week Ahead of World Environment Day

Sri Lanka has announced the observance of National Environment Week, running from May 30 to June 5, 2026. This initiative, organized by the Ministry of Environment, aims to raise awareness and promote action ahead of World Environment Day. The national commemoration is scheduled for June 5 and will be held under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Various island-wide programs are planned, focusing on themes such as climate action, air pollution control, biodiversity conservation, and water conservation, alongside activities like beach cleanups and tree distribution. The national celebration will adopt the theme “Let it Sprout” (Dalu Lanna Ida Denna), aligning with the global call for "Urgent Climate Action."
