Sri Lankan authorities have initiated an investigation into a missing payment of US$ 625,000 remitted by the Department of Posts to the United States Postal Service. Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa confirmed the probe, stating that US authorities had informed Sri Lankan officials the funds were never received. This revelation came during a press briefing where Minister Jayatissa also addressed a separate US$ 2.5 million financial irregularity within the Treasury. Both the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Department of Posts are conducting parallel investigations into the matter.

This development follows earlier confirmation that the US$600,000 (approximately LKR 190 million) payment, despite being claimed as completed by Sri Lanka Post, was not received by the US Postal Service.

Speaking at a Cabinet decisions media briefing, the Minister stated that the US Postal Service notified Sri Lanka that the payment had not been received, despite Sri Lanka Post claiming the transaction was completed. This investigation is distinct from discussions regarding a previously reported US$2.5 million Treasury payment also addressed during the briefing.
