Sri Lanka has launched the CROPIX Seed Production, Certification & Traceability System as a significant step towards modernizing its agriculture sector through digital innovation. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation and the Department of Agriculture, received technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The new digital platform aims to improve the identification and quality of seeds. It strengthens seed production and certification processes by enhancing transparency, efficiency, traceability, and coordination among stakeholders across the seed value chain. The system is expected to bolster the overall reliability and effectiveness of Sri Lanka's seed sector.
