The Sri Lankan government has successfully surpassed its procurement target for the Yala season paddy harvest. According to Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, over 45,362 metric tons have been purchased, exceeding the initial goal of 39,500 metric tons. Agriculture and Livestock Deputy Minister Namal Karunaratne reported that the total purchased quantity has now exceeded 46,000 metric tons, with the process ongoing. The government has allocated Rs 6 billion for this purchasing drive, having spent approximately Rs 5,471 million so far. The paddy purchasing process, which began on July 13th, also includes provisions for loans to mill owners.
