Sri Lanka Faces Flooding and Landslide Risks Amidst Intensifying Rainfall

Heavy rainfall has led to significant disruptions across Sri Lanka, with Hatton and Nawalapitiya experiencing widespread flooding and a landslide in Ratnapura prompting immediate evacuation orders. The Meteorological Department has recorded up to 204mm of rainfall in Kasbewa within 24 hours, with forecasts indicating continued heavy showers exceeding 75mm in many areas. This adverse weather has affected at least 8 districts, impacting over 3,400 individuals. The Southwest monsoon is expected to fully establish in the coming days, bringing further increases in rain and wind across the island.
