Sri Lanka Defence Secretary Discusses Peacekeeping Troop Deployment with UN Assistant Secretary-General

Sri Lanka's Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Sampath Thuyacontha, held a high-level meeting with Khaled Khiari, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Political, Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. The discussions occurred during the Sri Lankan delegation's official visit to the UN Headquarters in New York. The primary focus of the meeting was on preparatory steps for the deployment of proposed military groups from Sri Lanka to UN peacekeeping missions. Mr. Khiari's portfolio includes Central and Eastern Europe, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific regions. Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the UN, Jayantha Jayasooriya, was also present as part of the delegation.
