Sri Lanka Declares 2026 Vesak Week from May 27 to June 2, Matara to Host Main Festival

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has released the official program for the 2026 State Vesak Festival. The Cabinet of Ministers has declared Vesak Week from May 27 to June 2, 2026, to commemorate the triple blessings of Lord Buddha. The primary State Vesak Festival event is scheduled for May 27, 2026, at the Tihagoda Midellawala Purana Viharaya in the Matara District. Arrangements are being made for grand celebrations across the entire island, under the guidance of the All Ceylon Shasanarakshaka Mandalaya. Various government and non-governmental organizations, including the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, and District Secretariats, will collaborate to facilitate these nationwide festivities.
