This decision comes amid significant pressure from various stakeholders, including players. In his place, Eran Wickramaratne, a former Member of Parliament and State Minister, is anticipated to be appointed to lead an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket. Wickramaratne is also noted for his past as a prominent cricketer at Royal College, Colombo. Silva was first elected as SLC President in February 2019 and has continued in the role since then, winning multiple elections.

The Sports Minister officially appointed the nine-member interim committee this evening, April 29th, at the Ministry of Sports premises. The committee, officially named the "Sri Lanka Cricket Restructuring Committee" or "Sri Lanka Cricket Reforms Committee", is chaired by Former MP Eran Wickramaratne. Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne was also present at the appointment ceremony.

The Sports Minister has officially appointed a nine-member interim committee to administer Sri Lanka Cricket. Former MP Eran Wickramaratne has been named as the Chairman of this committee. The other members appointed are Roshan Mahanama, Kumar Sangakkara, Sidath Wettimuny, Thushira Radella, Prakash Schaffter, Upul Kumarapperuma, Avanthi Colombage, and Dinal Philips. This committee will oversee the institution's affairs until a new board is elected.

The Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has officially accepted the resignations of Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva and the entire Executive Committee today, April 29th. Following this, all administrative functions of Sri Lanka Cricket have been temporarily brought under the purview of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, effective today. This move was made under the powers vested in the Minister by Sections 31 and 34 of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973. The Ministry also stated that a new committee will be appointed shortly to address ongoing issues and implement structural changes within the sport.
