Sri Lanka Committee Convenes Multiple Times to Prepare for El Niño Impact

A special ministerial subcommittee and official committee, chaired by Environment Minister Dr. Dammika Perera, has convened multiple times to strategize against the impending El Niño climate impact. With an 81% global risk forecast, the committee is focusing on safeguarding agriculture, food security, water management, and energy sectors. Discussions have also addressed potential job losses and relief measures for affected communities, alongside planning for increased rainfall, floods, and landslides. To enhance public preparedness, the committee has decided to conduct rehearsal workshops in vulnerable areas.
