Sri Lanka Climbs 14 Places to 67th in 2026 Global Peace Index, Ranks Second in South Asia

Sri Lanka has achieved significant progress in the 2026 Global Peace Index, climbing 14 places to secure the 67th position globally. The report, compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), also ranks Sri Lanka as the second most peaceful nation in South Asia, with Bhutan being the only country ahead in the region. This advancement comes as the index, which assesses 23 criteria including safety and societal stability, notes a global decline in peacefulness for the 12th consecutive year. Iceland retained its title as the world's most peaceful country, while Russia ranked last among the 163 nations surveyed.
