Sri Lanka Cabinet Spokesman: Funds Available for Provincial Council Elections, Legal Provisions Key Hurdle

Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has stated that necessary financial provisions are available to conduct the Provincial Council (PC) election. He made this assertion during a media briefing on June 26, responding to claims by JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva that the election could not be held this year due to a lack of funds. Minister Jayatissa clarified that the primary obstacle is not funding but legal provisions, and a parliamentary committee is currently working to resolve these legal issues. He indicated that the election could be held soon once the relevant legal framework is established.
