Sri Lanka Cabinet Approves New Bill to Combat Organized Crime

The Sri Lankan Cabinet of Ministers has approved the publication of a new Bill aimed at preventing organized crime within the country. This legislative initiative seeks to protect society from threats posed by organized crime groups and combat serious crimes, addressing perceived inadequacies in existing laws. The Bill also intends to give effect to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime by fostering national and international cooperation. Following Cabinet approval, the draft legislation will be published in the Government Gazette and subsequently presented to Parliament for further deliberation and approval. The new law is expected to introduce provisions for more effective prosecution and prevention of organized criminal activities.
