Sri Lanka Bids Farewell to Legendary Singer Nanda Malini

Legendary Sri Lankan singer, musician, and cultural icon, Dr. Nanda Malini, was laid to rest on August 22, 2026, following a cremation ceremony at the Borella General Cemetery. The celebrated artist passed away on August 20 at the age of 82 at her home in Nawala. Her remains were placed at the Nanda Malini Sangeetha Ashramaya in Nugegoda for the public to pay their final respects, with a funeral procession departing at 3:30 p.m. for the cemetery, where cremation took place at 5 p.m. The event was attended by hundreds of thousands, including political leaders, artists, and fans, mourning the loss of a voice described as representing the glory of Sri Lankan song and social justice. The government also announced a three-day mourning period.
