The Sri Lankan Cabinet has approved two significant projects aimed at recovering from the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which struck in November 2025. A USD 200 million ADB-funded initiative will focus on broader reconstruction and livelihood assistance, addressing an estimated USD 2.1 billion in damages and USD 1.4 billion in economic losses. Separately, the People's Republic of China has agreed to finance the repair of 14 bridges damaged across several provinces. This Chinese-funded project, amounting to 7,929 million Renminbi, will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase targeting 9 bridges within 18 months. The recovery efforts aim to restore national infrastructure, including highways and irrigation systems, and support affected livelihoods.
