Sri Lanka and Thailand Sign Labour Agreements to Facilitate 10,000 Worker Placements

TLDR
  • 10,000 Sri Lankan jobs secured in Thailand.

  • Two labour agreements signed by ministers.

  • Focus on worker rights and welfare.

Sri Lanka and Thailand have signed two significant labour agreements aimed at facilitating the structured recruitment of Sri Lankan workers to Thailand. The pacts, a Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation and a Memorandum of Agreement on the Employment of Sri Lankan Workers, were signed in Bangkok on September 14. Sri Lankan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, and Thailand's Minister of Labour, Julapun Amornvivat, signed the documents. These agreements establish a transparent framework to ensure the rights, welfare, and legal protection of approximately 10,000 Sri Lankan workers initially set to be employed in Thailand. This initiative aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the labour sector between the two nations.
