Speaker Certifies Inland Revenue and Chief of Staff Bills

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has certified the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill and the Chief of Staff (Removal) Bill. The Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill, which aims to modernize tax administration processes, clarify existing provisions, and strengthen tax compliance, was passed with amendments following its second reading debate on May 19th. The Chief of Staff (Removal) Bill, presented for its first reading on August 4th and passed without a vote after its second reading debate on September 9th, seeks to repeal the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Act No. 35 of 2009.
