Attorney-at-Law Rakhitha Rajapakshe, son of former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, and Charith Abeysinghe, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) organiser for Horana, have been arrested by Sri Lanka’s Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). The arrests are reportedly linked to an alleged bribery case involving Rs. 120 million. The suspects are accused of accepting the substantial bribe to facilitate the removal of detention orders under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) against organised criminal figure Nadun Chinthaka, alias ‘Harak Kata’. A former director of the Civil Aviation Authority, Aruna Sri Chathuranga, was also reportedly taken into custody in connection with the same case.
