SLTB Fleet to Expand with 600 New Deluxe Air-Conditioned Buses

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the procurement of 600 new deluxe, air-conditioned buses for the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to bolster its intercity and long-distance passenger services. This decision supersedes an earlier plan to acquire standard-model buses, prompted by new safety specifications introduced under the 2025-2026 Road Safety Plan that identified the need for more comfortable and secure vehicles. The project, integrated into the government’s 2026 investment programme, has been allocated a budget of Rs. 14.4 billion.
