SLTB Bus Collides with Heavy Vehicle Near Hambantota Port, Drivers Arrested

An accident occurred in the early hours of April 9 near the Hambantota Port, on the Tissamaharama–Matara main road, involving a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus and a backhoe loader. The bus, which was traveling from Hambantota to Colombo, reportedly collided with the heavy vehicle as it crossed the road towards the port. While reports vary, two individuals, including the bus conductor and one passenger, sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital, with some sources indicating up to ten people received medical attention. Following the incident, both the bus driver and the backhoe loader driver were arrested. Police are currently conducting further investigations into the crash.
