Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) has issued a stern warning regarding two distinct types of sophisticated scams circulating via WhatsApp. One involves explicit video calls, where scammers record victims and use the footage for blackmail and extortion, with some operations reportedly originating from India and employing Indian women. A separate scam targets users with convincing messages impersonating officials from the Department for Registration of Persons, aiming to deceive individuals through official-sounding communications. SLCERT urges the public to remain vigilant against these fraudulent activities and report any suspicious contact.
