The Vanathavilluwa Pradeshiya Sabha has elected Vinsan Francis of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) as its new Chairman. Francis secured the position in a secret ballot, winning by a margin of two votes, receiving 10 votes compared to the National People's Power candidate's 8. In a subsequent open ballot for the Vice-Chairman position, Thusitha Lakmal of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was elected with 11 votes, reportedly with support from the 'Common Opposition'. The election for the chairmanship was previously suspended due to legal proceedings.
