The Colombo Magistrate's Court has adjourned the case against Shashi Weerawansa, wife of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, to May 25th. Weerawansa faces charges of obtaining an irregular diplomatic passport by allegedly submitting forged documents, including a purported birth certificate. Appearing in court today (11th) on bail, her legal team requested permission to examine the computer system related to computer-generated documents before evidence is led. The Magistrate has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to state their position on this request at the next hearing.

The case against Shashi Weerawansa over allegations of obtaining a diplomatic passport using forged documents has been adjourned to May 25th. The defense attorney Buddhika Chandrasekara informed the court of his intention to inspect the computer system used to generate electronic documents relevant to the case. The case was filed by the CID based on a complaint by H. Chaminda.
