Sanitary Towels to Require SLS Certification from October 2026

TLDR
  • SLS certification mandatory for sanitary towels.

  • Ban on non-certified products from Oct 8, 2026.

  • Applies to local and imported goods.

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced a significant regulatory change mandating SLS certification for all single-use sanitary towels sold in Sri Lanka. Effective from October 8, 2026, the manufacture, packing, distribution, storage, sale, and display for sale of sanitary towels without the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) Product Certification Mark will be prohibited. This directive applies to both locally manufactured and imported products, including those certified under SLS 1732 and SLS 1748 standards. The move, detailed in an extraordinary gazette notification, aims to ensure product quality and safety for consumers.
