The National System Operator (Private) Limited has reported that temporary power disruptions were experienced in several areas yesterday due to grid instability. This follows the request for rooftop solar owners to voluntarily deactivate their systems today, May 31st, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., a measure taken to ensure the stability of the national electricity grid amidst low demand during the holiday period.

The National System Operator (Private) Limited has provided further details on its request for rooftop solar owners to deactivate systems on May 31st. The request is attributed to the combined effect of Vesak Poya and the long weekend, which has led to a significant drop in electricity demand below forecast levels, coupled with a substantial increase in solar power generation, necessitating the measure for grid stability.
