The All Ceylon Restaurant and Restaurant Owners' Association has announced multiple price adjustments for various food items, with different effective dates and reasons cited across reports. An initial announcement, reported to be effective from midnight on March 31, indicated an increase of Rs. 30 for fried rice and kottu, Rs. 10 for short eats, and Rs. 5 for plain tea and milk tea. This adjustment was primarily attributed to the hike in electricity tariffs, impacting operational costs for restaurants.
A separate or subsequent announcement, reported to be effective from midnight on April 6, detailed a Rs. 20 increase for rice and curry, fried rice, and kottu. Notably, this announcement also included a Rs. 10 decrease in the price of short eats. The reasons provided for these later changes were an increase in gas prices for the upward adjustments and a decrease in coconut oil prices for the reduction in short eats.
