Public Warned of Digital ID Card Fraud Scheme

The Department for Registration of Persons has issued a public warning about an ongoing scam where fraudsters are misusing the department's name and official hotline to obtain personal information and commit financial fraud. These individuals are making calls using numbers similar to the official hotline, including +94115226126, +0115226126, 0771167739, and 0742756098. Additionally, a mobile application has been created, falsely bearing the state emblem, to deceive individuals into registering details for a digital identity card or e-Nation ID. The department explicitly stated that it has not commenced any such program for digital ID registration. The public is urged to be vigilant against these attempts to gather personal data and perpetrate financial scams.
