New People's Front leader Sugishwara Bandara and his supporters faced strong opposition and were attacked with eggs and cow dung while attempting to protest outside the residence of Finance Ministry Secretary Harsha Suriyapperuma in Pelawatta, Akuregoda, on Wednesday (28th) morning. The demonstration was reportedly organized in response to the alleged loss of US$ 2.5 million from the Treasury due to a hacking incident. Local residents reportedly confronted the protesters, leading to a tense situation at the scene. Police were called to intervene and control the situation, with reports indicating the protesters subsequently dispersed.

In a new development, Finance Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma also filed a complaint with the Thalangama Police on April 28 afternoon regarding the protest and attack at his residence. Separately, Nava Janatha Peramuna leader Sugeeshwara Bandara has alleged that special security, comprising a team of 12 armed Special Task Force (STF) members, has been deployed to Dr. Suriyapperuma's residence following the demonstration.

A formal complaint regarding the attack on protesters was filed by Nava Janatha Peramuna leader Sugeeshwara Bandara and others with the Thalangama Police on April 29. The complaint alleges that Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) members were responsible for the excreta attack and includes the names of thirteen (13) individuals allegedly involved. Separately, protesters have also accused "government-loyal supporters" of carrying out the attack with cow dung and eggs.

New allegations have surfaced regarding the attack on protesters. Sugeeshwara Bandara, leader of the Nava Janatha Peramuna, has claimed that Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) supporters were responsible for pelting the Finance Secretary's residence with cow dung and eggs. Meanwhile, the Joint Opposition has condemned the violence, stating that peaceful demonstrators were assaulted and pelted with human excreta, cow dung, rotten tomatoes, and lighted crackers. The Joint Opposition also accused the JVP of using "thuggery and intimidation" to suppress exposure of alleged frauds.
