Private University Student Dies After Hotel Party Clash in Homagama; Five Arrested

A 19-year-old private university student tragically died following a clash at a hotel in Moragahahena, Homagama, last night, April 9th. The incident occurred during a party organized by students from a private higher education institution, where an argument reportedly escalated into an assault. The deceased, identified as a resident of Nikadalupotha, Wellawa, sustained fatal injuries during the altercation. Homagama Police have since arrested five suspects, all fellow students from the same university, in connection with the death. Investigations are ongoing, with a magistrate's inquiry also underway.

The catalyst for the clash has been further detailed: it reportedly began when the deceased student, a friend of a female student, assaulted another male student who had followed the female student to the restroom during the party. The 19-year-old deceased student has been confirmed as a resident of the Nikadalupotha, Wellawa area in Kurunegala, and was reportedly staying at a student hostel in Pitipana, Homagama. A magistrate's inquiry is scheduled regarding the body. The five arrested individuals have been confirmed to be students.
