Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya departed for the United Kingdom on May 18 to attend a high-level meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States. She left Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at approximately 1:20 p.m. aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL 403, accompanied by a two-member delegation. The delegation is scheduled to conclude their visit and return to Sri Lanka on May 23.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya's official visit to the UK took place from May 18 to May 22, 2026. She commenced her program with academic engagements at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex, where she addressed the 60th anniversary celebration. During her tour, she participated in the 22nd Annual Commonwealth Education Forum and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) Board of Governors Meeting. She also delivered the "The Politics of Development Sri Lanka and Beyond" 2026 OSGA annual lecture at Oxford University.

During her meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey on May 21, 2026, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya was informed that the Commonwealth will provide continuous support for Sri Lanka's sectors.
