President Pledges International Healthcare Standards, Oversees Key Infrastructure Development

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stated the government's firm objective is to elevate Sri Lanka's healthcare sector to internationally recognised standards, moving beyond mere reforms. Speaking at pre-budget discussions for the 2027 budget, he emphasized the readiness to allocate necessary funding and highlighted a focus on strengthening primary healthcare. The President also officiated the foundation stone laying for a new Rs. 3004 million heart surgery and cardiovascular treatment unit at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. This eight-storey facility is being constructed under Japan's JICA loan scheme. The President reiterated that the health sector is being steered towards a broader path for the well-being of the people.
