President Pledges 2027 Budget Focus on Water Issues and State Institutional Reform

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that the 2027 Budget will prioritize lasting solutions to the public's long-standing drinking water issues, potentially with historic allocations. This announcement was made during a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat today (08), which reviewed the progress of 2026 budget projects and discussed 2027 budgetary requirements for the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Water Supply. During the meeting, the President also directed the discontinuation of ineffective and unproductive state institutions to reduce financial burdens and eliminate inefficiencies caused by overlapping mandates. Furthermore, special attention was given to accelerating resettlement programs for war-displaced individuals and implementing a scheme to provide housing aid for low-income earners with partially constructed homes.
