President Dissanayake Pledges Enhanced Support and Better Life for Sri Lankan Farmers

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has pledged to provide Sri Lankan farmers with a better quality of life, social value, and respect. Speaking at events in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa on July 10, 2026, the President outlined several key initiatives. These include doubling the fertilizer subsidy and extending it to additional crop cultivation, as well as providing historically high compensation for crop damage and allocating record funds for paddy purchases. The government also plans to resume large-scale irrigation projects and has commenced the second phase of the Anuradhapura North Water Supply Project, intended to address chronic kidney disease in affected areas.
