President Dissanayake Holds Talks on Prison System Challenges and Officer Welfare

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently met with senior officials from the Department of Prisons, including Superintendents and Jailers, at the Presidential Secretariat. The extensive discussions focused on challenges currently facing the prison system and urgent measures required to address them. Special attention was given to the recent incident at the Negombo Prison, with deliberations on steps to prevent similar occurrences. The meeting also addressed issues faced by prison officers and their welfare, alongside proposals for resolving systemic problems and potential expansion of facilities.
