President Attends Amarapura Nikaya Ordination Ceremony After Nine-Year Gap

The Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya's Upasampada (higher ordination) state ceremony commenced this afternoon (July 9) at the historic Kalutara Bodhiya premises, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in attendance. The ceremony, which will continue until July 22 at the Udakukkhepa Simamalaka in the Kalu River, is expected to see over 400 novice monks receive higher ordination. This significant religious event, typically held every three years, is particularly noteworthy as it is being conducted after a nine-year interval. The proceedings are led by the Supreme Mahanayake of the Nikaya, Most Ven. Aggamahapanditha Karagoda Uyanagoda Maitrimurthi Mahanayake Thero.
