Premadasa Urges National Preparedness and Grassroots Awareness for El Niño-La Niña Impacts

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has declared that Sri Lanka must urgently prepare for the severe impacts of the El Niño-La Niña climate cycle, characterizing it as a national security issue. He emphasized that addressing climate change is vital for economic stability, food security, and water security. Premadasa called for discussions and awareness initiatives on these climate phenomena to extend beyond the capital to rural and urban grassroots levels. Speaking at events including a parliamentary caucus meeting and a conference with foreign experts, he also highlighted the necessity of a modern disaster management framework to withstand recurring crises.
