Premadasa Challenges Government to Hold Provincial Council Elections

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has challenged the government to hold Provincial Council elections, asserting that the people must be given an opportunity to express their mandate and evaluate the current administration. Speaking at various platforms, including a May Day rally and in Parliament, Premadasa stressed that such polls are essential for gauging public opinion on governance and state policy, and for protecting democratic rights. He also highlighted the importance of safeguarding the Thirteenth Amendment and the existing rights of Provincial Councils. Premadasa accused the government of delaying these elections, contrasting the current stance with past calls for polls when in opposition.
