The earthquake's magnitude has been updated to 7.5. First tsunami waves have been recorded, with heights of 40cm in Miyako port and 80cm elsewhere. Warnings for waves up to 3 meters remain for Iwate, Hokkaido, and Aomori prefectures. As a safety measure, Shinkansen services have been suspended. The epicenter was located 100km off the Sanriku coast at a depth of 10km. Japanese Prime Minister Sane Takaichi has urged residents to move to higher ground.
