Port of Colombo Climbs to World Top 20 in Container Rankings

The Port of Colombo has significantly improved its global standing, now ranking 20th among the world's busiest container ports, a notable climb from its previous 26th position. This advancement is driven by a substantial 11.9% year-on-year increase in container throughput during the first half of 2026. During this period, the port handled 4.44 million TEUs, reinforcing Sri Lanka's status as a key maritime hub in the Indian Ocean. The rankings were compiled based on the latest data from Alphaliner.
