A sanitation worker attached to the Polonnaruwa Provincial Revenue District Office was arrested today by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a local resident. The suspect allegedly accepted Rs. 35,000 in bribe money. This was in exchange for preparing a land valuation report at a reduced value, intended to lower the stamp duty payable for a land transfer. Reports indicate the suspect had initially demanded Rs. 50,000 for the service.
