Police Warn Public Against Fake Traffic Fine Messages and Scams

Sri Lanka Police have issued a stern warning to the public regarding false information circulating online and via messaging apps concerning traffic fines. These fraudulent messages, often appearing on social media, SMS, or WhatsApp, falsely claim that traffic fines have been increased or demand immediate online payment for alleged offenses. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) W.P.J. Senadheera of the Traffic Control and Road Safety Range has stressed that these notifications are entirely fake and not issued by the Police or the Department of Motor Traffic. Motorists are urged not to open suspicious links or share personal or banking details and to rely only on verified sources for information.
