Police opened fire on a van that evaded a roadblock in Asgiriya, Gampaha, last night (12th), acting on intelligence regarding drug distribution in the area. Officers from Weliweriya Police pursued the vehicle after it failed to stop at their checkpoint. The van reportedly sped through Gampaha town, with the driver allegedly unaware he was being followed, before stopping suddenly near Malwatta junction.
