Sri Lanka Police have announced strict legal action against vehicles fitted with unauthorized modifications and excessively noisy exhaust systems as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety and traffic regulation compliance. Authorities have observed a growing number of vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, with analyses of recent accidents revealing that illegally modified buses have been involved in fatal incidents. The crackdown targets hazardous alterations, altered exhaust systems, and other illegal modifications that increase the likelihood of accidents and cause public nuisance. The Police Media Division emphasized that ensuring traffic discipline and protecting road users are primary responsibilities.
